So What Happens When I Press My Medical Alarm Button?
If you have a fall, an illness, are dizzy, have shortness of breath, have chest pain, smell smoke, see fire, hear an intruder…You name the emergency situation. All you need to do is …
PRESS THE VITAL-LINK BUTTON.
The BUTTON is a transmitter (kind of like a garage door opener or a TV remote) that you wear either on your wrist or around your neck. It is about the size of a half-dollar and weighs about an ounce. This button sends a signal to a small console.
The CONSOLE (a small box about the size of a hard back book) receives the signal from the button and uses your phone line to send an emergency signal to the Vital-Link Central Station.
With our VOICE SYSTEM our people at the Central Station will open up a microphone and a speaker in the console. This will allow us to TALK and LISTEN to you without you needing to get to the phone. If you tell us that you are OK (you pressed the button by mistake … or you were testing the system … or simply that you thought you might need help but are OK now), then we will do nothing further. If you can tell us that there is a problem (you are dizzy… or you can’t breathe… or you have fallen), then you will direct our next action. If you can’t clearly tell us what to do next or you can’t talk to us at all, then we will assume that that there is an emergency and begin the emergency response procedure. The procedure that we will follow is also up to you and can be set up one of two ways:
- We can call the RESPONDERS first … your kids… your friends … your family … your neighbors … the front desk of your apartment building … the building superintendent … whomever you designate. We will ask these emergency contacts to go to your home and help you. The responders’ responsibility is to check out the situation at your home. If none of your responders are available, then we can dispatch the emergency service.
- We can call the EMERGENCY SERVICES first and get them on their way to your home. Then we can begin calling your responders in order to notify them.
The Choice is Yours!
Our Central Station will also have other vital data about you that may be useful in an emergency such as your doctor’s name and phone number, your hospital, your medical conditions and your drug allergies. This information can be provided to emergency personnel at the time of an emergency.
Certified US-Based Emergency Response Centers
Vital-Link commitment to high quality service and training is particularly important for our emergency response centers. Vital-Link has partnered with a company that has specialized in emergency monitoring since 1981. In place are redundant emergency monitoring centers, both located in the United States, that are capable of providing nationwide support even if a natural or man-made disaster takes one of their centers offline. These monitoring centers are CSAA Five Diamond Certified, which means they undergo a rigorous certification process each year and commit to quality standards. Layered on top of this certification, the centers are subject to random inspections and are certified by UL Labs, a nationally recognized testing laboratory. All of our monitors operators are US-based English speakers.
