When people think of medical alert systems their minds naturally turn to our senior population.  This is not without just cause as the majority of our customers at Vital-Link are seniors, however there are many other people in certain situations that could also greatly benefit from the peace of mind and independence a medic alert device provides.

Vital-Link has customers who have been seriously injured on the job and are getting their systems as a form of workers compensation.  Other non-senior clients suffer from afflictions such as traumatic brain injuries or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).  We receive regular referrals from rehabilitation social workers for middle aged folks who need an alert button after suffering a debilitating injury. A medical alert system can serve to ease the anxiety of being alone with a new ailment for both the user and their loved ones.

Unfortunately, many of our younger subscribers suffer from neurological diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis or ALS.  Vital-Link’s founder, Sheree Weizer, suffered from the brutal effects of Multiple Sclerosis before she passed away in 1995.  The independence that she felt from her alert button allowed her the freedom to take care of herself without the needing frequent help from a nurse or having to have someone care for her 24 hours/day.  Some other disabilities that may be aided by a medical alert system include; seizure disorders, spinal cord injuries, and paraplegia.

It’s often a little bit more difficult to convince a younger loved one that they need (and more importantly that they need to wear!) a medical alert button.  Many of our younger customers simply tuck their pendant into their shirt or blouse.  This is perfectly safe and the user doesn’t have to advertise to the world that they have an alert button for a disability.
